Solidarity Sunday: Kayla’s Story

February 19, 2018

by Kayla

When I was three, I was raped by two teenage boys in our church while their mom babysat me. They left my brother alone, because he was a boy. When I was 12, I finally had the words to say what had happened. I told a friend, who told a friend, who told a friend, who told the world, and it got back to the boy’s mom. We had to move, because the mom was leaving death threats on our answering machine.

#SilenceIsNotSpiritual is a call to action to the Church to stop standing by and start standing up for women and girls who experience violence.
